Dental Crowns & Restorations

According to the ADA, a dental crown is a cover or cap that can be fitted over your tooth. Dental crowns work to restore the tooth’s natural shape, size, and function. Most importantly, crowns help improve the overall look of teeth and make them stronger.

What is the purpose of a dental crown?

If you have a cavity that is too large for a filling, you may be a candidate for a dental crown. Additionally, if your teeth are cracked, severely worn down, or missing, you can benefit from a tooth crown.

What are crowns made of?

Crowns can be made from a variety of materials. For example, ceramic, porcelain, metal alloys, and composite resin are common materials. Then, the crown is colored to blend in with the natural color of your teeth.

What does the process consist of?

The timeline varies depending on the severity of your tooth’s condition. Typically, crown placement can take multiple visits to your dentist’s office. However, at Reflection Ridge Dental, we have advanced same-day milling technology that allows for crown molding and placement in one visit.

In the process of creating your crown, your dentist will make sure that it looks natural and fits well in your mouth. The material of your crown will depend on several factors, including functionality, location, the gum tissue, and your preferences.

How does same-day milling technology work?

Our first step is to examine your tooth and determine your course of treatment. We will then prepare your tooth for restoration, which is like traditional treatment methods. Your tooth will be covered with a tasteless powder. Then, we use a state-of-the-art digital 3D camera to create an optical impression. To clarify, the digital image replaces the physical impression required in traditional procedures. Most importantly, this process is much faster and simpler.

Caring for your teeth

As always, visiting your dentist every six months is recommended for preventative treatment and care. Talk with our team of dentists about which type of crown is most appropriate for your dental needs.
